Description

The mission of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame is to preserve and promote the history of Thoroughbred racing in America and honor the sport’s most accomplished participants in the Official National Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame. The Museum was founded in 1950 to recognize the achievements of race horses, jockeys and trainers, and houses a diverse collection of art, artifacts, and memorabilia that documents the social, economic, political, and cultural history of Thoroughbred racing in America. The Official National Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame honors horses, jockeys, trainers, and–beginning in 2013– “Pillars of the Turf,” an honor bestowed upon individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to thoroughbred racing in a leadership or pioneering capacity. Annual Hall of Fame inductions began in 1955 and each August, new inductees are celebrated with a ceremony open to the public.
