Often used today by racing enthusiasts to welcome their guests, the lawn jockey is said to trace its origin to the Underground Railroad movement . As a symbol of safety, the lighted lantern led the way through the Saratoga Region for many brave freedom-seekers. The artwork for this collectible was created by Joseph Bell, MD, a local Saratoga Springs resident and Saratoga Hospital surgeon .
